Fraud alert: ICBC text message scam
Some BC residents are receiving scam text messages claiming to be from ICBC. These messages often say you owe money for a traffic violation and must act quickly.
They’re designed to create urgency and pressure. The goal is to get your personal or financial information.
What to watch for
These messages may:
- Use urgent language like “final notice” or “action required”
- Reference laws to appear legitimate
- Include links that don’t lead to ICBC
- Pressure you to pay right away
Important to know
ICBC does not request payments or threaten enforcement by text message.
What you should do
If you receive one of these messages:
- Do not click links or reply
- Do not share personal or financial information
- Delete the message and report it
- Contact ICBC directly if you’re unsure
If you already clicked or shared information
Act quickly to protect yourself:
- Contact your bank or credit card provider
- Monitor your accounts for unusual activity
