40 Years of Giving

As part of Westland’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, Westland kicked off our 40 Weeks of Giving campaign to show our appreciation to our clients and communities we are fortunate to serve.

 

31. Voices Against Bullying, Hamilton Ontario

Westland is proud to support this program that focuses on providing families dealing with bullying incidents a third party resource that will procie advocates that are proeffionsally trained to provide support for the children and families involved. The Hamilton region has twice the national bullying rate, in which 60% of students have experienced bullying.

30. Feed Nova Scotia, Dartmouth NS

Our 40 Weeks of Giving campaign continues with Feed Nova Scotia. We are pleased to support this organization as they have been working diligently for the past 30 years to provide support and food to those in need in Nova Scotia. They are now supporting 140 member agencies and they recognize the need for food is growing and they can’t feed their way out of it. While they continue to address food insecurity by supplying emergency food support, they’re also working to find long-term solutions to hunger and poverty in Nova Scotia.

29. Vernon Winter Carnival – Vernon, BC

We are excited to continue our 40 Weeks of Giving campaign by supporting the Vernon Winter Carnival Society. The Vernon Winter Carnival Society is a non-profit organization located in Vernon, BC. Since 1961, the carnival has been dedicated to promoting Greater Vernon as a world-class destination. Their 10-day winter festival fosters community spirit while showcasing the cultures, diversity, and spirit of the North Okanagan. Each February, the community looks forward to coming together to enjoy the many winter events as there is something for everyone.

28. Medicine Hat Food Bank – Brown Paper Bag Lunch Program – Medicine Hat, AB

We are proud to support the Medicine Hat Food Bank’s Brown Paper Bag Lunch Program. The program has been feeding children nutritious lunches in Medicine Hat for 9 years. What started as an idea, has blossomed into an incredible program that has made sure that tens of thousands of children over the years haven’t had to worry about being hungry in class.

27. Amanda Todd Legacy – Port Coquitlam, BC

Our 40 Weeks of Giving Campaign continues with the Amanda Todd Legacy. It is a non-profit society that focuses on awareness, preventions and resources related to bullying, cyberbullying, exploitation, online safety, and positive mental health. The Legacy is focused on finding ways to educate and supporting oneself and others and strives to support initiatives that encourage. We are proud to support this non-profit as online bullying is of ever-growing concern for young individuals.

26. Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver – Vancouver, BC

We are pleased to support the Big Brother of Greater Vancouver by donating to their annual golf tournament B2Gold Big Brothers Golf Classic. We are proud to support the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver as they enable impactful mentoring relationships where children and youth can discover their power and potential, in collaboration with our local communities. They believe that the diversity of their volunteers, families, and staff allows them to collectively strengthen their organization to intentionally support the communities they serve.

25. Long Lake #58 First Nation – Longlac, ON

Our 40 Weeks of Giving Campaign continues as we celebrate 40 years in Business! With the Gillons team, we are pleased to support the Long Lake #58 First Nation in Ontario with a donation to their annual Walleye Tournament. The Long Lake #58 First Nation are progressive and proud people, striving for self-sufficiency through education, economic development, social development, and participation in the regional economy while managing our rightful lands and resources.

24. Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta – Grande Prairie, AB

We are excited to continue our 40 Weeks of Giving with our Grande Prairie by supporting the Ronald McDonald House Charities Alberta’s Shoot for the House clay shooting tournament. The RMHC Alberta supports families seeking vital medical treatment for their seriously ill or injured child. Their warm, compassionate houses provide a home-away-from home for families who need to travel for medical reasons. When those families are experiencing one of life’s most difficult times – they offer them the gift of togetherness. Westland values family, and we are very proud to support the RMHC that allows families to stay together in times of hardship and illness.

Our colleagues from Gillons Insurance Brokers, now a division of Westland, participated in the 40 Weeks of Giving by supporting the Red Lake Hospital Foundation in Red Lake, Ontario.

Kristina Booi, Business Insurance Account Executive from the Gillons’ Red Lake location was thrilled to present the donation to Marion Whitton, Chair of the Hospital Foundation. This donation will help support the goal of purchasing a piece of analytical laboratory equipment that will aid in saving valuable time and improve response times.

22. High Prairie Ladies Auxiliary

22. High Prairie Ladies Auxiliary

Our 40 Weeks of Giving continues with the team from High Prairie, AB supporting the High Prairie Ladies Auxiliary. The Auxiliary is a group of volunteers who work to raise money for the care of patients in the High Prairie Hospital.

Tina Rosland, High Prairie Branch Manager, presented the donation to Margaret Kruger, President of the Auxiliary. Westland’s donation will go towards equipment and items that help ensure their patients are getting the best care. The Auxiliary also handles the administration of a bursary program, donations made in memory of loved ones, and maintains the Donor Wall.

We’re continuing our 40 Weeks of Giving! The Westland team from Hope, BC supported the Royal Canadian Legion with a donation going towards providing assistance to Veterans and their families, local charities, youth sports groups, bursaries and a strong cadet corp.

Heather High, Hope Branch Manager, was honored to present the donation to Ian Williams, President of the Hope 228 Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

Westland’s 40 Weeks of Giving continues with our Theodore, Saskatchewan colleagues supporting the Whitesand Regional Park, with a donation to replace the playground equipment that will include inclusive equipment for children of all ages and abilities to enjoy.

“Whitesand Regional Park has undertaken the task of replacing our aging playground equipment and with the generosity of community sponsors such as Westland Insurance we are happy to announce that this will officially take place on May 7th! The Society exists to meet the needs of children, youth and families, women who have experienced violence, victims of crime, adults with mental handicaps, children with special needs, couples, and individuals experiencing trauma or difficulties in their life.

17. Community Foundation of Portage and District

As part of Westland’s 40 years in business, we are featuring community support through the 40 Weeks of Giving campaign! MIG (now part of the Westland group) has strong roots in Portage la Prairie  since starting the business back in 1995, and continues to serve as an important hub for Manitoba operations. This week we are thrilled to share the continued support of the Portage Foundation of Portage and District. In doing so, we are excited to announce an update to the name of the fund to MIG/Westland Insurance Community Fund.

MIG has been proud to be involved in many community initiatives since inception and, in 2019, decided that investment in community is handled well within the Community Foundation of Portage and District, directing funds to where they are needed the most. We are elated to have Westland continue the support to this great organization. The Community Foundation is a public foundation serving the charitable needs of donors and grant- seekers alike in the City and RM of Portage la Prairie. The contributions of donors, from all walks of life, are pooled into permanent, income-earning Endowment Funds which continue to grow in order to provide funding for local community priorities for many years to come.

15. Bear Clan Patrol – 40 Weeks of Giving

Gillons Insurance Brokers was thrilled to participate in Westland Insurance 40 Weeks of Giving campaign in celebration of their 40th year in business. If you haven’t heard, Gillons is now a division of Westland, having been acquired in 2020.

The Gillons team selected the Bear Clan Patrol in Fort Frances, Ontario to support with a monetary donation. Myron, David, Chad, and Kayle from our Fort Frances location presented the donation to James Eastman, Bear Clan Patrol Leader, and Patrol crew members Sharon Morrison & Ryan Buckshot.

The Bear Clan Patrol responds to our communities in need to protect the most vulnerable; young women, children and endangered youths. The Patrol is a non-profit volunteer group made up of volunteers who donate their time to needle clean up in parks and the downtown corridors of Fort Frances. This great organization also provides safety rides for the victims of domestic violence.

This donation will help off-set the costs of the Patrol’s rent, fuel for the mobile patrols, and the safety rides provided throughout the late night and early morning hours.

14. The Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society

Our 40 Weeks of Giving campaign continues this week with our team from Coquitlam supporting the Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society (CFFCS). Ramesh Keshav, Regional Manager, and Angelica Buikema, Branch Manager at Westland Coquitlam, presented the donation to the Society’s President, Trevor Demoskoff.

CFFCS provides support and funds to various local causes including Muscular Dystrophy Canada, the BCPFF Burn Fund, Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, and the Society’s Nutritional Breakfast and Snack Program in Coquitlam elementary schools.

We continue our 40 Weeks of Giving in celebration of our 40th anniversary this week with our Kelowna locations taking part of a food drive for the Central Okanagan Food Bank. The Central Okanagan Food Bank is a caring, compassionate group of people who help those in need, without consideration of race, religion or creed through: Providing healthy and nutritious foods to those in need.
