Reaching new heights with the snowboarding Big Air World Cup

 Community

This past December brought the Canada Snowboard Style Experience Big Air World Cup to the Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, and Westland enjoyed participating as an exclusive insurance sponsor for this spectacular event!

The event and teams were proudly hosted on Treaty 6 territory, home to the Nêhiyaw (Cree), Nakota Isga (Nakota Sioux), Dene and Saulteaux. This is an ancestral homeland of the Métis and a long-standing place of importance for the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot). The Style Experience places significant emphasis on the connection with the Edmonton community and the Indigenous peoples residing in the region. As part of this, Westland was a sponsor for the Edmonton and Indigenous youth programming, where nearly 500 school kids were invited to attend the training day. From the front row stands of the stadium, this group experienced an exclusive viewing of the athletes practicing and even got to meet them and get their autograph cards signed.

Modified from last year and taller, the big air ramp extended 100 feet above the top row of the top deck of Commonwealth Stadium – standing at a height of 15 storeys, it became the world’s tallest temporary scaffold-built urban snowboard jump! The main event on Saturday, December 9 allowed attendees and some of our Westland staff and clients to marvel at this design mastery, explore the local and Indigenous artisan and vendor market, view our Westland ads highlighted throughout the stadium, and mainly experience world-class snowboarding.
