Remember the Kelowna forest fires in 2003? Of the 240 homes destroyed, all of them were underinsured: on average by 29% ($90,000 on a $300,000 home).
Many Lower Mainland homeowners are in a similar predicament: they just don’t know it. Rising construction costs have caused replacement costs to pass the insured value by a wide margin for many people. It’s why we at Westland work to educate our customers about the need to Insure to Value, even if it means looking "less competitive" in comparison to another insurer.
