Your vehicle is an extension of your life. It lets you get to where you want to go when you want to go there and is much more than just an investment. Let one of our auto specialists walk you through your options and help you choose the coverage best suited for you to make sure you’re protected out on the open road.
In British Columbia, there are mandatory coverages through ICBC. Did you know that you have options above and beyond that to enhance your overall coverage while out on the road? Autoplan is the mandatory coverage for all vehicles in BC provided through ICBC. Note, there are significant changes to the Autoplan product effective May 2021. To learn more, read our blog highlighting all changes. Autoplan includes financial protection for the following:
- Third Party Liability coverage ($200,000 limit which is not sufficient in many circumstances).
- Enhanced Accident Benefits which provide every British Columbian with benefits in the event of injury or death, regardless of who was at fault in an accident.
- Underinsured Motorist protection
- Inverse Liability
- Protection from hit and run damages to property (hit and run damage to vehicles is now available as an optional coverage)
- Basic Vehicle Damage
A basic policy will encompass mandatory coverages. We recommend increasing coverages with the optional limits to better your coverage while out on the road.
Optional Auto Insurance
In addition to this basic, mandatory coverage, there are many extended and optional coverages that you can select from, depending on your personal situation. We always recommend that you explore options when it comes to enhancing your car insurance coverage. From lowering your deductible, increasing liability and getting enhanced wage protection coverage, you can build out the car insurance policy that reflects you and the use of your vehicle. There are also many extension and optional coverages available from private insurance companies that we work with. You’ll need to register your vehicle with ICBC, but you have the option to add on an auto policy from another insurance company to enhance your coverage. A benefit to auto extension policies through alternate insurance companies is that you may have optional coverage not available to you through the ICBC product.
